MEMORIAL SERVICE

Saturday, June 29, 1979, at 3 P.M.

PRELUDE - Prince Edward Island Regiment Band

THE ROYAL SALUTE

GREETING, CALL TO WORSHIP, and INVOCATION PRAYER
Dr. D. I. MacIntosh

HYMN

"All People That on Earth Do Dwell",
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him gladly serve, his praise forth tell,
Come ye before him and rejoice.The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid he did us make;
We are his folk, he doth us feed,
And for his sheep he doth us take.O enter then his gates with praise,
Approach with joy his courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless his Name always,
For it is seemly so to do.For why, the Lord our God is good;
His mercy is for ever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The God whom heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the angel-host
Be praise and glory evermore. Amen.

SELECTION by THE LEGION CHOIR,

"The Island Hymn"Fair Island of the sea, we raise our song to thee,
The bright and blest; Loyally now we stand as brothers,
hand in hand, And sing God save the land we love the best.

RESPONSIVE READING - Song of the Fathers, Ecclesiasticus 44
Brigadier-General John Ready, Deputy Mayor

Let us now praise famous men: and our fathers that begat us.
THE LORD HATH WROUGHT GREAT GLORY BY THEM: THROUGH HIS GREAT POWER FROM THEBEGINNING.
Such as did bear rule in their kingdoms, men renowed for their power: givingcounsel by their understanding, and declaring prophecies.
LEADERS OF THE PEOPLE BY THEIR COUNSELS, AND BY THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF LEARNING MEET FOR THE PEOPLE: WISE AND ELOQUENT IN THEIR INSTRUCTIONS.
Such as found out musical tunes: and recited verses in writing: RICH MENFURNISHED WITH ABILITY: LIVING PEACEABLY IN THEIR HABITATION.
All these were honoured in their generations and were the glory of their times: There be of them that have left a name behind them that their praisesmight be reported.
AND SOME THERE BE WHICH HAVE NO MEMORIAL: WHO HAD PERISHED AS THOUGH THEYHAD NEVER BEEN.
And are become as though they had never been born: and their children afterthem.
BUT THESE WERE MERCIFUL MEN: WHOSE RIGHTEOUSNESS HATH NOT BEEN FORGOTTEN.
With their seed shall continually remain a good inheritance: their childrenare within the covenant.
THEIR SEED STANDETH FAST: AND THEIR CHILDREN FOR THEIR SAKES.
Their seed shall remain forever:and their glory shall not be blotted out.
THEIR BODIES ARE BURIED IN PEACE: BUT THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.
The people shall tell of their wisdom: and the congregation shall show forththeir praise.

HYMN - "Faith of Our Fathers"Faith of our fathers! living still
In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword;
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whene'er we hear that glourious word!
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!Our fathers, chained in prisons dark,
Were still in heart and conscience free;
How sweet would be their children's fate,
If they, like them, could die for thee!
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!Faith of our fathers! we will love
Both friend and foe in all our strife;
And preach thee too, as love knows how,
By kindly words and virtuous life.
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!
